Massage and Reflexology
Reflexology and Massage will bring you great benefits!
Have you been to the Chinese Foot Spa in your neighborhood? Here in Southern California, there are many. Well, unless you live in a small town like we do. There are two and I’ve only been to one.
But if you find one you like you will benefit from a Reflexology treatment.
Is it Safe?
Now we’ve all heard stories about what goes on in massage “parlors”, and the “happy ending” narrative. But I will say that I have visited dozens of massage places and had literally thousands of massages and have never seen any indication of that going on. All the massage therapists that have worked on me were extremely professional. Am I just lucky? Well, I suppose if one were seeking a different kind of massage you’d be in a different part of town or be going at 10 o’clock at night. I’m just guessing here.
Anyway, with Yelp and Google there are plenty of reviews that will help you choose where to go.
You can also contact your local massage therapist or reflexologist. Some chiropractic offices have their own massage therapists.
I have been getting massage therapy for years and the last couple of years have pretty much just gone to the foot spa.
Type of Massage
I get a Combo, which is a half hour foot reflexology and a half hour shiatsu massage.
A shiatsu massage is done with your clothes on, while in a chair that reclines into a low massage table.
I find it somewhat more affordable than going to a regular spa but that’s a personal thing. You may feel more comfortable with someone who speaks English, and you may want to enjoy the whole spa experience.
Is it Woo-Woo?
I found it interesting that when I went to Wikipedia to search for more specifics on Reflexology, I found that the entire page was a negative dismissal of any benefits. Quackwatch was the first link in the references section.
So, I will say that while I don’t know about the mapping of certain areas of the feet and hands to organs and other areas of the body, the fact that the process gets more blood flow to the area is the most important.
All physical therapists and physicians know that increased blood flow helps to heal all injuries.
